Background of Project Joy for Ramadan (fasting month) Yayasan MENDAKI (Council for the Development of Singapore Malay/Muslim Community) is a pioneer Self-Help Group formed in 1982 dedicated to empower the community through excellence in education, in the context of a multi-racial and multi-religious Singapore. Beyond its primary role in uplifting the community through education, Yayasan MENDAKI has in the past 15 years given back to the community through their signature Ramadan charity drive known as Project Joy. During the fasting month of Ramadan, staff from MENDAKI together with volunteers of all races and ages, set out to visit and deliver our gift of Ramadan - a hamper of basic healthy necessities and grocery vouchers to families. These families are poor and disadvantaged families with school going children. Once the goody bags were packed and distributed. We send them back home to their door step after they received their gift of Ramadan with a Flag-Off ceremony by the Minister.
